The really horrible/wonderful thing is that my 1991 13-year-old self thinks all these catalogue clothes are totally awesome.

Okay, so I was a teenager in the ’90s and I loved Sassy magazine and I had no idea this unholy union existed. Yes, Sassy was affiliated with a line of cheesy teen-oriented romance novels in the ’90s. The series was called The Loop, published by Silhouette Books, a Harlequin imprint. This particular title was published in 1995. I have no idea what the connection was with Sassy — there’s nothing else in the book to indicate it.
I found this out because I actually worked at Harlequin for a couple of years in the early aughts. Proofreading corny porn. At night. I’m not kidding. It was a weird but fun job.
ANYWAY, every so often free books would come up for grabs and I found this gem. Haven’t read it, but I just like having it to prove it exists. Also, my BFF is named Marissa, so there’s that.
Other titles in the series include:
GETTING OUT: EMILY
GETTING AWAY WITH IT: JOJO
GETTING A GRIP: DIG
GETTING A CLUE: TAMMY
GETTING CONNECTED: ROBIN
GETTING HITCHED: CJ
If you owned and/or were a fan of this series back in the day and know more about it, I’d like to hear from you. You can buy old copies cheap online, but other than that, there seems to be no record of their existence elsewhere.

I AM THE BFF MARISSA IN THIS :Dfollow my besties awesome tumblr!

It’s true, she really is. And her Tumblr is amazing. And her URL is amazing. And, well, she is amazing. I’ve known her since 1983, so I SHOULD KNOW. <3
p.s. Omg, Marissa, I made us sound so old! WE’RE SO OLD FOR TUMBLR.

Yup that’s it.

Please accept this as a small token of apology for not posting recently. Illustrated YA covers of the ’90s are the besssst.

It’s coming up on two years since I started this blog and I still CAN’T over how how many people have decided to follow, comment, reblog, and submit to it. I started it just because I saw a void to fill and figured it made more sense to have a dedicated blog for all this stuff than to put it in my personal tumblr.
It’s just a hobby and, as such, I promised myself I would never spend money on it.
And then today I went by my awesome local used-book store in the hopes to sell a few things and found a series of 1990s high-fashion catalogues for sale.
… HOW COULD I NOT. (Okay, I bought two, but there were so many more and HNNNNG …)
So, stay tuned for the best/worst of Versace’s 1992 season and selections from a compilation of fashion shoots from an unspecified year, but I am guessing it’s early ’90s judging from the plethora of polka dots.
Thanks for sticking with me through my fallow periods. I will be more active on here again soon <3

senoritatinab asked: Buzzfeed just posted "Why Beverly Hills, 90210 is the epitome of fashion" with a ton of pictures. How do you feel about this? Do you feel resentful that they're crowding your niche? Or are you grateful because they just handed you some tasty material? ((I can't include the link, so go to Buzzfeed and search for the article))

My little outfit here is so itty-bitty compared to the giant Buzzfeed machine that I could hardly feel crowded by them. I really enjoy their lists and I think it’s cool they’re embracing the Ugly ’90s aesthetic. One of the Buzzfeed writers follows this blog and I think she is awesome. The only time I got annoyed with BF was when they used a bunch of my original scans for a list and didn’t credit the blog. Other than that, it’s cool. I don’t own nostalgia.

And now I have to go and check out that list. I better see some flowered hats, Steve’s nipple-grazing jeans, and Kelly’s red blazer.
