The Great Crushed-Velvet Debate
(Submitted by ohitsthe90s:)
Can we talk about crushed velvet for a moment? In the early 90s I rocked this look more times than I care to admit. All this pic is missing is a velvet choker and it would be “perfect.” Looking back, there was nothing good about crushed velvet. It was scratchy, made you sweat, and, if you were too poor to afford the good stuff (like me), the color would rub off all over everything. Yuck.

I have a complicated relationship with crushed velvet. On one hand, I think this outfit is gorgeous — I have this issue of Sassy and my love for this look is why I haven’t posted the picture in the past. HOWEVER, there is a dark side to crushed velvet and you captured it perfectly. I think the worst was crushed-velvet bodysuits. Bodysuits in general. I cannot BELIEVE that shit is coming back. Yes, I just love wearing a bathing-suit shirt with crotch-snaps! :p
… I still have a dark sapphire-blue crushed-velvet dress in my closet that I just can’t part with. Looks like its time may be coming again.

I have been hunting everywhere for one of these dresses recently. I have no idea what caused me to want one so bad, but...
